Our small silk twill square reproduces a painting Cézanne created in 1874. It is one of Cézanne's first paintings of bathers, a subject that engaged him for the rest of his career. Although fascinated by the nude human figure, Cézanne worked slowly and was not comfortable with female models, so he derived such scenes from his imagination and his deep knowledge of classical art and the Renaissance.
