Our wool and silk shawl reproduces a painting by Mary Cassatt. Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker. She spent much of her life in France, where she trained in painting and formed friendships with, among others, Edgar Degas and Berthe Morisot. After the death of her sister Lydia in 1882, she embarked on a series of portraits of young children, often with their mothers, thus finding her preferred subject. Throughout her life, she worked to promote the Impressionist movement in the United States and advocated for women’s right to vote. The painting 'The Loge,' painted in 1879, depicts the audience in the boxes of the Opéra Garnier in Paris.
